Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers | Prediction, Odds & Tips
When the season began, no one thought the San Francisco 49ers would be the last undefeated team in the league. But thanks to a stifling defense, a solid run game, and an easy schedule—they are. But the road is about to get a lot tougher for them starting with the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football.
So—are they as good as their record makes them seem, or will Seattle expose them as pretenders?
Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers Preview
At this point in the season, it has become clear what fans have in most teams, and they begin to clamor for more competitive games. Well— it can’t get much more competitive than the battle that will take place Monday night between the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers.
Seattle has won ten of the last 11 against San Francisco. But the 49ers enter the game as the last undefeated team in the country. While the 49ers may have feasted on a weak schedule along the way, the Seahawks have done the same.
So, this game is essentially a measuring stick for both sides.
Can Russell Wilson continue his MVP-caliber season against one of the best defenses in the league? If need be, can Jimmy Garoppolo step up to the plate again for the 49ers to secure a win?
Seattle Seahawks News
The news out of Seattle that everyone wants to know is how much the Seahawks plan on using newly acquired wide receiver Josh Gordon. He passed his physical, and has been cleared to practice. Should he play, he will give the Seahawks a deep threat and home run hitter that they otherwise did not have.
It may be unrealistic to expect much from Gordon in his first game. But the threat he provides could open things up a little more for Tyler Lockett.
Seattle fans have not seen the team’s other new acquisition play yet, but it looks like they may see the Seattle debut of safety Quandre Diggs this week. Carroll has not stated whether he will play this week or not but has sounded positive about his chances.
San Francisco 49ers News
In the NFL, you do whatever it takes to win. If that means your high-priced quarterback takes a back seat to the defense and running game, then so be it. But while that formula has worked for the 49ers as they beat up a soft schedule, they know they need to develop a passing game if they are going to beat the tougher teams.
So, they traded the Denver Broncos for wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders.
In his second game with the 49ers, he had his first 100+ yard day with his new team, and Jimmy Garoppolo had his first 300+ yard game of the season.
However, while the offense is improving, the defense is going to be tested in the weeks to come after losing linebacker Kwon Alexander for the season. He was diagnosed with a torn pectoral muscle after last Thursday’s win over the Cardinals.
Losing Alexander will hurt against Seattle. However, the team could be getting four other starters back: tackles Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey, and possibly fullback Kyle Juszczyk and defensive back Ahkello Witherspoon as well.
Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers Head-to-Head
The 49ers and Seahawks last played during Week 15 of the 2018 season, a game that San Francisco won in overtime, 26-23. Before that, the Seahawks had won the last ten between the two teams. Overall, the Seahawks hold the edge in the all-time series with the 49ers, 25-16 (including one playoff win).
Odds and Predictions
Part of the reason for the 49ers success on defense has been turnovers; they have 16 so far this season, including ten interceptions. Whether they can add to that number could be the key to winning the game.
Russell Wilson is difficult to stop; they may be able to slow him down. But he is not going to be easy to stop. Eventually, he is going to get some points on the board unless they can force him to make a few mistakes.
But with just a single interception to his name this season, it is unlikely he makes many—if any – mistakes. However, he may not get many chances to work his magic with how well the 49ers run the ball and how hard a time Seattle’s defense has stopping the run.
So—how should you bet?
Take San Francisco to win straight up (-275) but for Seattle to win against the spread (+6.0). This is going to be a close, hard-fought game won by less than a touchdown by either team. As for the over/under (46.5)—take the over (but it will be close).
Our Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers Betting Tip:
This game will not be won by more than a touchdown, so take Seattle and the points.
