Baltimore Ravens @ Los Angeles Rams | Prediction, Odds & Tips
The Baltimore Ravens almost appear destined for postseason glory with how they are bulldozing the competition this season. But the Los Angeles Rams would love to remind the fans that they are still a very good team. Recording a win against a juggernaut like Lamar Jackson and the Ravens would certainly be a step in that direction.
However, are the Rams capable of slowing Jackson down?
Baltimore Ravens @ Los Angeles Rams Preview
This is one of those games that is a little hard to predict. In the Ravens, you have the hottest team in football. They excel at running the ball so well that the passing game opens up a little more because teams are so focused on stopping the run.
But while they may slow it down a little, no one has stopped it, and once teams relax their coverage a little, Jackson’s shortcomings as a passer are masked.
In the Rams, you have a team that is looking more and more to be suffering from the Super Bowl hangover with each passing week. Their defense is still good, but not nearly as good as last year’s unit. The offense, however, is struggling.
Jared Goff has not been as productive this year. Is that because of protection issues? Injuries to his wide receivers? The lack of a run game defenses fear? All of the above?
It probably is a combination of three to some degree. The Rams have been taking it easy on Todd Gurley this season. While that has been good for his knees, it has not been good for the Rams run game. But then last week, they gave him a full load, and he came through.
So—what version of the Rams offense is going to show up this week?
Baltimore Ravens News
At this point, for the Ravens, it is all about keeping the proverbial foot on the gas. That, and no one getting hurt. With how well the offense is playing, they don’t need to do anything special from one week to the next. They just have to make sure that Lamar Jackson remains healthy.
If he does and he keeps producing as he has been, he should set a new record for rushing yards by a quarterback in a single season (the current record is 1039 yards; he is on pace for 1261). Should he pull that off, it would be hard to imagine someone else being named MVP this season.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was caught on camera talking to Jackson during last week’s game against the Bengals, via ESPN:
“You changed the game, man. You know how many little kids in this country are going to be wearing No. 8 playing quarterback for the next 20 years because of you?”
To which Jackson responded with:
“I can’t wait to see it when I get older. But right now, I’ve got to get to the Super Bowl.”
Los Angeles Rams News
Aaron Donald will undoubtedly be a big part of the game plan for the Rams Monday night. If he and the rest of the defense can’t figure out a way to contain Lamar Jackson, things could get out of hand quickly. But what could be even more important is the state of the team’s wide receivers.
Coope Kupp has been doing what he can, but he needs to get some help. He might get it with the return of Brandin Cooks. Cooks has been out for a couple of weeks after sustaining a couple of concussions.
According to head coach Sean McVay, via ESPN: “He’s felt good for a couple weeks. We’ve gotten the thumbs up from everybody else.”
His return will be a big help, especially since it seems unlikely that Robert Woods will be making his return. Woods was out last week due to a personal issue. McVay had no news on a possible return early in the week.
Of course, the passing game could be a moot point for the Rams if they choose to feature Todd Gurley like they did last week.
Baltimore Ravens @ Los Angeles Rams Head-to-Head
There is not a lot of history between the Rams and Ravens. They have only played six times over the years, with the Ravens winning four of them. The last time they played was back in 2015; Baltimore won a close one, 16-13.
Odds and Predictions
If the Rams can establish the run game and keep the Ravens offense off the field, they have a better than average chance of stealing a win here. With how their offense has played this season, it is unlikely they could keep up with the Ravens in a high-scoring game.
But, except for last weekend, Todd Gurley has not been impressive. Without him being that guy, the Rams run game is not up to the task of controlling the clock against the Ravens.
Take the Ravens to win (-170) and cover the spread (-3). As for the over/under (46.)—this one could go either way, but the under is more likely.
Ravens fans may prefer the money line (-162) at 888sport a little better.
Our Baltimore Ravens @ Los Angeles Rams Betting Tip:
The Rams are too unpredictable on offense and not good enough on defense. Take the Ravens to win.
