Miami Dolphins – Dallas Cowboys | Prediction, Odds & Tips
To say it has been rough for the Miami Dolphins this season is an understatement. Their offense can’t seem to move the ball and the defense can’t stop anybody. As they continue to trade away their better players, it is becoming harder to see the possibility of a turnaround.
The Dallas Cowboys, on the other hand, are clicking on all cylinders. But they have been hit with a number of injuries. Could those injuries open the door for an epic upset?
Miami Dolphins vs. Dallas Cowboys Preview
This one should be an easy one for the Dallas Cowboys. They are running the ball well with Ezekiel Elliot behind their massive offensive line. Under Kellen Moore’s guidance, Dak Prescott has gone from being an ‘okay’ passer to one of the better ones in the league. The results speak for themselves.
Miami, on the other hand, is redefining what it means to be on the struggle bus. The defense has been ineffective against the pass and run. As for the offense, they are struggling to generate yards let alone points.
So—is it possible for the Dolphins to record the upset and steal a win? It all depends on how the two teams play.
If the Cowboys fail to go in for the kill early, it is possible that the Dolphins could find some success and gain some confidence. In the hands of a team that has played as poorly as the Dolphins have played a little confidence can be a dangerous thing.
Miami Dolphins News
Fans of the Dolphins knew it was going to be rough this season, but there is no way they could have known it would be as bad as it is. The offense has only scored one touchdown in two games, and the defensive side of the ball has been just as bad.
Two games into the season and they have scored just ten points while giving up 102. With Minkah Fitzpatrick being traded away, the defense is only going to get worse. But head coach Brian Flores is proud of his team (via MiamiHerald):
“I think that’s a resilient group in there. It really is. That’s a resilient group in there. They’re not making excuses. They’re not going to point fingers. We’re just going to go back to work tomorrow, make the corrections, come back Wednesday, make some more corrections and try to get better.”
With Ryan Fitzpatrick guiding the offense to just 38 yards through three quarters last week, many wondered if Josh Rosen would get the start this week against Dallas. But the team has said that Fitzpatrick will start once again.
Dallas Cowboys News
The season couldn’t be going better for the Dallas Cowboys. The defense is playing well, and the offense is looking better than ever under the guidance of new offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore. Dak Prescott is looking like a potential MVP-candidate with the offense not relying on Ezekiel Elliot like it has the last couple of years.
“We all knew it. We all had a lot of confidence in him. This is not a surprise to the players at all,” said tight end Jason Witten (via IdahoStatesman.com). “He simplifies it. He’s a good communicator. I think he’s got a great feel for the game.”
But the kind of performances they have had can lead to one thing the team will have to combat with the Dolphins coming to town—overconfidence. That and a couple of key injuries (wide receiver Michael Gallup and safety Xavier Woods) could make the Cowboys prime candidates to be upset this week—if they aren’t careful.
Miami Dolphins vs. Dallas Cowboys Head-to-Head
The Dolphins and Cowboys have only faced each other on 14 occasions with each team winning seven. The last time they faced each other was on November 22 during the 2015 season. The Cowboys won that game by a score of 24-14.
Odds and Predictions
For the Dallas Cowboys, this could end up being a ‘trap’ game this week. With as poorly as the Dolphins have played, it would be hard to fault the Cowboys for overlooking them. That, combined with a couple of key injuries, could open the door for an upset of epic proportions.
But don’t count on it to happen. More than likely, the game turns out exactly as projected—the Cowboys will win with ease (-2857.14) and cover the spread (-21.5). But it would not be shocking if the Cowboys let the Dolphins score some garbage time points and Dallas fails to cover the spread.
As for the over/under (47.0), since the Dolphins can’t be counted on to score any points, you have to ask yourself if the Cowboys offense can score 48+ points. While it has looked good so far this season, it is still a little hard to have faith in them.
Take the under.
Our Miami Dolphins @ Dallas Cowboys Betting Tip:
Does it need to be said? Take the Dallas Cowboys to win without a doubt. However, it may be worth it to put a little down on the Dolphins to beat the spread. Three touchdowns is a wide margin and the Cowboys are prone to playing soft defense early once they feel the game is in the bag.
