Memorial Tournament 2019 | Golf Betting Tips and Predictions
The Memorial Tournament is a popular event on the PGA Tour. It was started in 1976 by the legendary Jack Nicklaus and is played at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. It is an interesting golf course in that it passes through Muirfield Village and you can see a bronze sculpture of Nicklaus teaching a young golfer.
Last year, the winner of the event won just over $1.6 million and the total prize fund is going to be more in 2019. The defending champion is Bryson DeChambeau, who won in a playoff against An Byeong-hun and Kyle Stanley.
It was his second win on the PGA Tour but has he got what it takes to defend the title?
DeChambeau is known for his scientific approach to golf and it has brought him many PGA Tour titles during his short career. However, none of the titles he has won have come this year and the best the American has achieved in 2019 is 7th place.
That came back at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January and DeChambeau has missed three straight cuts ahead of the Memorial Tournament. He missed the cut at the RBC Heritage, PGA Championship and Charles Schwab Challenge.
Therefore, it comes as no surprise to see DeChambeau out at +3300 with William Hill to retain his title at Muirfield Village.
The bookmakers favourite to win the 2019 Memorial Tournament is Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman has never won this event but has been enjoying a very good year on the PGA Tour, picking up a tremendous victory at the Players Championship.
McIlroy came T8 in his most recent tournament which was the PGA Championship. It was a tough event and McIlroy could easily have missed the cut but battled on to finish strongly. With nine top 10 finishes to his name this year, McIlroy is a contender in event tournament he enters.
McIlroy is the favourite to win the Memorial Tournament 2019 at +900 with William Hill.
We cannot preview this event without mentioning Tiger Woods. The current Masters champion missed the cut in his most recent tournament which was the PGA Championship and that will have come as a big disappointment.
However, Woods has won the Memorial Tournament five times in his career, making him the most successful golfer in the history of the event. Woods would love to continue his revival by winning on this golf course and he can be backed at +1100 with William Hill.
This week sees the return to action of Justin Thomas following a spell out with a wrist injury. It will be interesting to see how he goes following six weeks out and no top 10 finishes in his last four events. Thomas is available at +1800 with William Hill.
Other strong contenders to win the Memorial Tournament include Justin Rose at +1600, Jordan Spieth at +1600, Rickie Fowler at +1800 and Jason Day at +2000. Look out for Jason Dufner, the 2017 champion who’s T4 at the Wells Fargo Championship shows he can still mix it with the best of them on the PGA Tour.
Dufner is an outside bet at +8000 with William Hill.
