Los Angeles Rams @ Dallas Cowboys | Prediction, Odds & Tips

For much of the season, the Los Angeles Rams have looked like they were sleepwalking through the season. The Dallas Cowboys, on the other hand, looked like a playoff-bound team. Now, the Rams look more like a team that wants to make the playoffs while Dallas looks like a team hoping the season ends soon.

If either is going to remain alive for a playoff berth, they need to win this week.

Los Angeles Rams @ Dallas Cowboys Preview

A few weeks ago, it looked like the story on this game was going to be about the Cowboys using it as a stepping stone for the playoffs. Now, it is looking more like a steppingstone for the Rams. As for the Cowboys– a potential nail in the coffin.

With three losses in a row, the Cowboys have gone from being in control of their playoff lives to struggling to stay in the fight—and there is no single aspect of their game to blame.

The offence is generating yards, but they are getting a lot of it in garbage time. The defence can’t seem to get off the field, but not always because they can’t stop opposing offences. They keep committing penalties on third downs.

Those issues may be hard to clean up at the time, but they at least did something about their kicking game woes and cut Brett Maher this week.

As for the Rams, things couldn’t be going better for them. Now that they are giving Todd Gurley the ball a lot more, they are looking better in every facet of the game.

But with the 49ers winning the division (so far) and the Vikings and Seahawks leading the Wild Card race, they have no room for error anymore.

Los Angeles Rams News

After the disheartening loss to the Steelers back in Week 10, it was looking like the Rams were indeed suffering from the dreaded Super Bowl hangover this year. The offence was flat, and the defence couldn’t always do enough to keep the team in the game.

But then the team started doing something fans have been waiting for—it began feeding Todd Gurley the ball.

The offence still didn’t look good against the Bears, but with Gurley leading the way (97 yards on 25 carries), they got a much-needed win. They followed that game up with a crushing defeat at the hands of the Ravens, where Gurley barely saw the ball.

But the last two weeks have seen him leading the way on offence.

Jared Goff recently recognized the difference Gurley has made in the offence in recent weeks, via ESPN:

“It opens everything. It starts with him and when he’s rolling, and we’re rolling.”

They will certainly look to get him rolling early and often against the reeling Cowboys defence.

Dallas Cowboys News

The Cowboys were in complete control of the NFC East, but after losing three in a row, they are back in a tie for first with the Philadelphia Eagles. This, of course, makes each game a must-win situation if they are going to keep their fading playoff hopes alive.

To that end, that also means they are going to have to beat a good Rams team. If they are going to have a chance at that, they are going to have to play better in all phases of the game, according to head coach Jason Garrett, via ESPN:

“We just haven’t played well enough as a team in all three phases to win the ballgames. It’s really as simple as that. Offence hasn’t been good enough. Defence hasn’t been good enough. Special teams hasn’t been good enough. Coaching, playing everybody. You use this as an opportunity to get better, you look at it closely, and you get back to work.”

For Garrett, there is more than just remaining alive for the playoffs at stake. Jerry Jones has gone from saying Garrett’s job is safe until the end of the season to the end of this week. Another loss could see him cleaning out his office and working on his resume.

Linebacker Leighton Vander Esch is the only person not expected to play.

Los Angeles Rams @ Dallas Cowboys Head-to-Head

The Rams have won the last two, but the Cowboys have won three of the previous five. For the all-time series, they are tied 17-17.

Odds and Predictions

Surprisingly, the Cowboys actually opened as three-point favorites in this game. Oddsmakers must not be willing to believe in the Rams just yet. But with how the Cowboys have been playing, it is hard to see them beating anyone—especially a team that ran roughshod over them in the playoffs last season.

It would be nice to think that the Cowboys would get it together enough to help Jason Garrett keep his job, but there is no reason to believe they will. Take the Rams to win, straight up and against the spread.

As for the over/under (49), both teams are capable of scoring some points. Take the over. But you may want to take the number (48.5) being offered by BetOnline.ag instead
