Green Bay Packers – Kansas City Chiefs | Prediction, Odds & Tips
When the season began, this was one of the games many fans had circled on their calendars. Watching one of the best quarterbacks of all time, Aaron Rodgers, face off with the most exciting young quarterback in the game today, Patrick Mahomes, was certainly must-see-TV.
But then Mahomes went down with a knee injury last week. With Matt Moore at quarterback, the Chiefs offence is not nearly as dynamic. However, he did look good last week after relieving Mahomes. So, maybe this turns out to be a close one after all?
Green Bay Packers vs. Kansas City Chiefs Preview
The Chiefs and Packers have not played often throughout the years and only twice in the last decade. While it doesn’t have quite the same appeal to it with Mahomes out of the lineup, the game still features two playoff-caliber teams.
Of course, there may be some doubt as to whether the Chiefs are a playoff-caliber team with Matt Moore at quarterback. While he is an 11-year veteran, he has only appeared in 49 games and started 30 (zero since 2017).
But against the Broncos, after relieving Mahomes, he was 10-19 for 117 yards and a touchdown. However, it was the defence that led the way to a win by holding the Broncos to just 205 total yards and recording nine sacks.
It was a surprisingly good game for the Chiefs defence, albeit against a struggling Broncos offence. But the Packers offence is far from struggling. After a slow start to the season, Aaron Rodgers has the Green Bay offence humming.
Last week he had his second 400+ yard game and also had five touchdowns. However, the defence gave up 484 yards to the Raiders. So, it is entirely possible Moore can move the ball against them.

With all of the injuries to his wide receivers, it wasn’t clear who Rodgers was going to be throwing to against the Raiders last week. They had a few guys, and Rodgers made them all look like All-Pro’s. But this week, there is a strong chance he gets his No. 1 back, Davante Adams.
Head coach Matt LaFleur had this to say about the possibility of Adams playing:
“I think it could go right up to game time, to be truthful. I’m not quite sure where we’re at right there with him right now.”
He did not practice Wednesday, but the team is still hopeful he can go against the Chiefs.

As bad as the injury to Mahomes looked on television, the prognosis ended up not being too bad. Following the MRI the next day, the Chiefs said they were expecting him to be out for three weeks. But then somehow Mahomes was able to throw at practice Wednesday, not even a week after the injury.
Does this mean he could play? Andy Reid hasn’t ruled it out:
“I don’t think you can put a timeline on this thing. I think you just go off how he feels, and what the doctors say. I know people want a time. I don’t think you can do that with this injury.”
It would be great for the Chiefs if Mahomes was able to play. But the more significant concern should be to get him back to full-strength rather than risk reinjury by letting him play too soon.
Green Bay Packers vs. Kansas City Chiefs Head-to-Head
The last time the Packers and Chiefs played was back during the 2015 season in Week Three; Green Bay won, 38-28. Over the years, the two teams have only met 12 times. Kansas City leads the all-time series between them, 7-4-1.
This will be the third time Aaron Rodgers will face the Chiefs; he is 1-1 all-time against the Chiefs.
Odds and Predictions
This game would have been an incredible offensive showcase with Mahomes facing off against Rodgers. However, with how Moore looked last week and how the Packers defence has been playing, it still might be. Moore may be a career back-up, but he showed last week that he is capable.
But he shouldn’t expect to get as much help from his defence this week. It is one thing for the defence to come alive against the Broncos (who are 29th in scoring). Playing as well against Rodgers and the Packers—well, it isn’t going to happen.
Moore will put a good fight, but in the end, Rodgers will lead the way to another big win for the Packers (-210), straight up and against the spread (-4). As for the over/under (48.0), Green Bay will do most of the work, but the over looks like a safe bet.
Our Green Bay Packers @ Kansas City Chiefs Betting Tip:
With a healthy Mahomes at quarterback, this one would have been tough to call; without him, not so much. You can feel safe taking the Packers to win, straight up and against the spread.
